Do window shutters improve home security?

Despite what a shutter company may say, Window Shutters (like all window shades) WILL make a room slighty darker (up to 15%) – even when the louvres (slats) are tilted open at 90 degrees. This is due to the thickness of the wooden louvres lying across the window area.
Also, a smaller louvre size (45mm) will not bring as much light in as medium louvres (76mm+). On a postive note, a white coloured window shutter will reflect and soften harsh sunlight into a room.
Are window shutters blackout?
A window shutter will prevent about 90% of light intrusion. This is because each louvre side is an elliptical shape and when tilted shut, will always allow light to enter at the side and bottom.
